Bio

Jeremy Schwark is a Human Factors Engineer Lead at Google, where he is responsible for overseeing the human factors process for all regulated healthcare products and features. This includes usability testing, risk assessments, and human factors validation for Software as a Medical Device (SaMDs) that utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning to detect medical conditions and the health features found on Fitbit and other wearable and mobile devices. Prior to rejoining Google, Dr. Schwark was a Human Factors Engineer and UX Researcher at Apple, where he worked on health and wellness features found on Apple products.

Before moving into tech, Dr. Schwark worked at Abbott in the neuromodulation division, where he led the human factors work on dorsal root ganglion, deep brain, and spinal cord stimulation systems that provide therapy for movement disorders and chronic pain. This work supported multiple FDA and EU MDR approvals for Class 3 implantable devices, mobile applications, and telehealth systems. Dr. Schwark also worked as a human factors consultant, providing expert analysis and opinions on litigation matters such as accidents and product liability claims. He provided both deposition and trial testimony and was retained on cases based in Texas, California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

Dr. Schwark received a Ph.D. in Human Factors Psychology and M.A. in Experimental Psychology from New Mexico State University and a B.A. in Psychology from Trinity University. His graduate research focused on advancing models of human vision, attention, and memory and he taught university courses in psychology, sensation and perception, and human-computer interfaces. Dr. Schwark's graduate work was supported by fellowships from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Schwark serves on the AAMI Human Factors Engineering technical committee and mentors aspiring human factors professionals on ADP List.
